How people search for a lawyer
Legal searches are some of the most intent-heavy on Google. Someone typing "family lawyer Abbotsford", "real estate lawyer near me" or "wills and estates lawyer Fraser Valley" usually has a real matter and wants to speak to someone soon. They typically look at the map results, open two or three firm websites, and contact the one that most clearly handles their kind of matter and makes the next step easy.
That means law firm SEO is not about ranking for "lawyer" in general. It is about being visible and convincing for specific practice areas, in the communities your firm actually serves, at the moment someone is deciding who to call.
What law firm SEO includes
Practice-area pages
The single most effective improvement for most firm websites is a dedicated page for each practice area: family law, real estate conveyancing, wills and estates, personal injury, criminal defence, immigration, corporate and commercial, or whatever your firm actually does. Each page should explain who the firm helps, the kinds of matters it handles, what a first consultation involves, how fees are discussed and how to book. A single "Practice Areas" page with a list of bullet points gives Google and potential clients very little to go on.
Lawyer profiles
Clients choose people, not logos. Clear lawyer profiles with practice focus, year of call, languages spoken and a professional photo build trust and help Google understand who practises what. We draft structure and wording; your lawyers confirm every fact.
Google Business Profile
For local legal searches, the map results often get the first click. We review your categories, services, description, hours, photos and service area, and make sure the firm's name, phone and address match your website and the directories that matter. Where a firm has more than one office, each needs its own accurate profile.
Technical SEO
We fix the problems that hold good pages back: slow loading, broken links, duplicated pages, missing titles and descriptions, poor mobile layout and structured data errors. Many firm websites have been rebuilt several times over the years and carry old pages that now return errors.
Legal directories and citations
Accurate listings on reputable legal and local directories support both visibility and trust. We audit the important ones for consistency and help you correct outdated details.
Helpful content
Clients often search their question before they search for a lawyer: what happens at a real estate closing in BC, how a separation agreement works, what to do after a car accident. Clear, accurate articles that answer those questions, reviewed by your lawyers, attract the right visitors and show expertise. On the Authority plan we plan and draft this content monthly.
Working within the rules
Lawyers in British Columbia are bound by the Law Society of British Columbia's rules on marketing. Without giving legal advice ourselves, we follow some simple principles that keep firm marketing on the right side of those rules:
- No invented results, testimonials or reviews, and no claims that cannot be substantiated.
- No claims of specialisation unless the firm is entitled to make them.
- No language that promises an outcome in a legal matter.
- Every legal explanation is reviewed and approved by a lawyer at the firm before it is published.
- Client confidentiality is respected in review requests, case descriptions and photos.
Your firm remains responsible for its own compliance, and we make that easy by flagging anything that needs a lawyer's eye.
How we start
- A free call to understand your practice areas, the matters you want more of and the communities you serve.
- An audit of your website, Google Business Profile and the search results for your key practice-area searches. See what our website and SEO audit covers.
- A written scope with priorities and measurable benchmarks agreed before the first month.
- Monthly work and reporting in plain language, with organic and map visibility reported separately.
Timelines and cost
Legal searches are competitive, so it is worth being realistic. Technical fixes and profile improvements are usually picked up within weeks. New or improved practice-area pages typically take two to three months to settle, and competitive practice-area searches often take six months or more to judge fairly. We do not promise a ranking or a date.
Our Local SEO plans are published: $397 per month for Starter and $597 per month for Authority, which adds monthly content and authority building and suits firms with several practice areas. See the full scopes on our pricing page and the breakdown in our SEO cost guide.
Other professional firms
Accountants, bookkeepers, notaries, financial advisers and consultants face many of the same challenges: trust-driven decisions, professional rules and services that need careful explanation. The same approach applies. See our page on websites for professional firms, or read more about SEO in Abbotsford in general.
